Health and Safety Program at Continental Roofing -The basic philosophy about the organizational Health & Safety Program is, “We all want to have a safe and happy workplace”. To ensure this we need everybody’s participation. The management of Continental Roofing is committed to providing safe and healthy working conditions, and to promoting positive attitudes toward safety and health within the organization” -Health & Safety is equally as important as production, and that the Health & Safety shall not be sacrificed for the sake of Expediency.
Any worker, without penalty, can refuse to work from any height if they feel adequate fall protection is not provided. Working at any height while feeling at risk is dangerous and is not necessary. -Unacceptable performance of Health & Safety responsibilities is a matter of serious concern or that the personal Health & Safety of employees is vital importance to the company.
Our safety rule infraction states, “The safe work rules and guidelines in the safety manual are for the benefit of all parties. If the rules are not followed it is necessary to have a sequence of disciplinary actions to maintain the integrity of the program” and “Failure to comply with any of the above information will result in a formal meeting with senior management in order to prevent further according neglect of rules and regulations, and will be dealt with in an appropriate matter according to infraction.” -“Management is responsible for determining adequate standards of site and equipment maintenance, to ensure that physical and health hazards are guarded against or eliminated, and for developing work procedures conductive to a safe and healthy work place.” -“Foremen are responsible for ensuring their workers are properly instructed to do their work safely, and to know and follow all rules and safe work procedures.
Everyone is expected to correct or report unsafe conditions activities, and to work cooperatively towards the prevention of accidents.” -The general safety responsibilities of all employees are that each employee of Continental Roofing is expected to perform his or her duties to the best of their abilities. This includes absorbing the information found in the health and Safety Manual and other related safety sources, as well as understanding the situations where safety precautions need to be taken. -General House keeping for the safety of yourself and others includes but is not limited to; Keeping a neat and tidy roof, materials must be stacked so they won’t fall over or get wet, never pile or have any materials within 6.5 feet of the roof edge, and secure all materials and coverings so they will stand winds and weather.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
-Every worker must be made aware of the location of First Aid for the workplace and how to call the First Aid attendant, if one is required.
-Put out safety cones around bottom of ladder or work area. -Have “Men/Roofers working above” signs at bottom of ladder.
-Use caution tape to mark off a high traffic/work area. -Having First aid kit on roof, protected from weather.
-Having a clean and organized work site, no slip, trips or fall hazards. -Use of delineators/caution tape on roof, eliminating fall hazards
-Have “Site Specific” sheet read and filled out, place at bottom of ladder in folder clearly marked.
-All persons enetering work area are to have proper PPE to eneter site and have received a safety orientation.
-Having all items from the “Fire Watch Prevention Program” on the roof while torching. (ABC extinguisher per torch, water extinguisher, soap bottle per torch, axe on roof, mini temp gauge, and fire watch record sheet ready to be filled out.)
-Using safety harness in Fall Restraint while hoisting equipment
-No equipment or materials within 6.5 feet of the roof edge.
-When in the control zone, alert the monitor on duty that your are entering.
