If you’ve passed by the corner of Burrard and West 4th any time in the last month, you’ll have noticed an incredible set of 40 foot gold-flaxen wings; the newest mural in the city that has ‘instagram-worthy’ shot written all over it. The piece, proudly dubbed with the hashtag #KitsWings has garnered nearly 700 posts on Instagram since it was unveiled to the public last month during the Khatsalano Street Festival.
The wings have quickly become a popular photo op, as they were designed to be. The piece was made by local artistic duo Sandy and Steve Pell who were tasked with creating an interactive public art piece which inspires values like connectedness, positivity, and freedom.
“Our goal is simple: we want to transform blank spaces into remarkable, memorable and interactive places. We aim to celebrate the diversity of the community by creating an abstract reminder of those beautiful moments which everyone can relate to. Ultimately, we hope to help put a smile on everyone’s face.”
The layout is designed to work no matter what your size, so even tiny tykes and furry friends can get their wings on! The artists created a piece that could beautifully be captured on your smartphone and thus easily shared on social media.

With a perfectly positioned piece that allows the Kits sunset to fall strategically behind it in the summer months plus gold chrome paint that reflects like glitter, you’re looking at one stunning piece of artwork! It’s no wonder Vancouverites are flocking to it to get a first-hand look.
Rock 101 spoke with Sandy on the success of the mural and how incredible the public response has been in such a short period of time.
“We’re really happy that the mural has helped contributed to people engaging with the mural art in so many creative and upbeat ways! Steve and I also enjoy reading all of the captions, comments, and tags that have appeared in Instagram with the #kitswings hashtag.”

Do you believe in Angels? Not only do I have my Dad watching over me at all times, I also know I have a whole band of Angels that hang out with me. They surround me in a cloak of protection when I ride and are always there for guidance and help when I seek it. Although I travel solo, I am never truly alone. Have you ever experienced any angelic activity or supernatural miracles ? @cityofvancouver gathered a bunch of local artists to create beautiful works of art around town.
