Review: Adam Carolla Podcast – April 22, 2016. Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver.
Get it on! Got to get it on! No choice but to get it on. Mandate: Get. It. On.
That opening will be familiar if you are a fan of the most downloaded podcast in the world, the Adam Carolla Show.
Carolla brought his traveling road show to the Commodore, Friday night. Everyone was there – Bald Bryan, Gina Grad, Dawson and Producer Gary. The room was charged with energy… and Mangria (Carolla’s signature cocktail) from the get go. Carolla’s lightning fast wit was on display as he spoke extemporaneously on topics like being in Vancouver for friend and former collaborator Jimmy Kimmel’s stag several years ago, his disdain for actor James Franco, his perceived-to-be-fading celebrity, his freakishly large puppy – Philly Cheese Steak, his ambivalence towards the sport of hockey (which seemed fitting on the night his hometown Kings were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs), and much more. Regular features Blah Blah Blog and The News with Gina Grad were part of the show as well.
Engaging throughout and occasionally laugh-out-loud funny, the 100+ minutes seemed to fly by. The dynamic of the live show is somewhat different than the in-studio version of the podcast. This is hardly surprising with a room full of moderately to extremely soused people watching and interacting – but no one works harder on stage than Adam Carolla.
A solid start to the weekend. I had a blast!
