Hey it’s Scott Alan,
Bono has announced that U2’s new album, Songs Of Experience, will be released in 2016. It is the follow-up to last year’s Songs Of Innocence, which was instantly downloaded to every iTunes account in the world as a “free gift” as part of an Apple promotion. The ploy was widely criticized, forcing Apple to release a tool a week later that allowed users to delete the album.
Bono later apologized for the stunt, admitting it was the result of a “drop of megalomania, a touch of generosity, a dash of self-promotion.” He later told Billboard, however, that the giveaway was “one of the proudest things for us ever.
The band has not revealed whether Songs Of Experience will arrive in a traditional format or through some unconventional means. Bono said on Friday “Unusually for us, a lot of the songs are done already.”
U2 is currently in the middle of its world Innocence + Experience tour, which will visit Germany, Sweden, Spain, France, Belgium and the U.K. throughout the rest of the fall.
