Hey it’s Scott Alan,
North America’s tallest mountain has a new name.
The White House announced Sunday that the administration is changing the name of Alaska’s Mount McKinley to Denali, which in the Alaskan Native Athabascan language means “the high one.”
Word of the change came ahead of President Obama’s visit to Alaska, which will focus on climate change as well as showing solidarity with Alaska Natives. Alaskans have informally called the mountain Denali for years, but politicians from Ohio, the home of assassinated President William McKinley, after whom the mountain was named, have objected for decades to officially changing the name.
