You can’t win over everyone, Liam, no matter how hard you try.
Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher was reminded of that last Sunday, when an impromptu performance at a pub in rural Ireland was greeted with little more than polite applause.
The 42-year-old, who’s rarely appeared in public since the breakup of his second band, Beady Eye, in 2012, plopped down on a bench in the crowded bar in Charlestown, County Mayo, to play a new, currently untitled acoustic song for the gathered crowd.
Despite being in the presence of a one-time rock superstar, most of the pub didn’t seem to care, most continuing on with their conversation, while another patron inexplicably decided to drum along (completely out of tempo) with the song.
The biggest cheer came at the end of the performance as Gallagher got up to leave, though it’s unclear if it was for the musician or because the song was finally over.
