Queen to launch their own lager……..
Band release Queen Bohemian Lager to mark the 40th anniversary of Bohemian Rhapsody.
When one thinks of Queen, one surely thinks of Freddie Mercury down the pub, sipping his lager and then placing it on top of the fruit machine. And if only Freddie had lived, he would finally be able to celebrate with his own brand of beer.
Queen are releasing Bohemian Lager to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Bohemian Rhapsody, joining the ranks of bands with their own beers. It is, apparently, “golden” and “hoppy”. It’s also perhaps appropriate, given that people who’ve drunk too much lager often believe they can re-create the operatic midsection of Bohemian Rhapsody.
The link with Bohemian Rhapsody sort of reflects lager history. Lager, though originally German, became closely associated with Bohemia – now part of the Czech Republic – in the mid-19th century, when the town of Plzeň became a centre of the brewing industry. A pale lager was developed there that became known as pilsner.
Queen’s own lager is to be brewed in the Czech Republic, and will be 4.7%ABV. It follows their release of Killer Queen vodka.
