May 12, 1972 – The Rolling Stones released Exile on Main St. It has been ranked on various lists as one of the greatest albums of all time.
May 11, 1981 – Jamaican singer-songwriter Bob Marley died of lung cancer and a brain tumour at the age of 36.
May 13, 1985 – Brothers in Arms, the fifth studio album by Dire Straits, was released. The album won two Grammy Awards in 1986. It would go on to become the first album to sell one million copies in the CD format and to outsell its LP version.
