Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament is putting some of his own personal money into the construction of a new skateboard park in Stevensville, Montana. According to Rolling Stone, the $60,000 needed to launch the project was initially going to be raised by the community itself through bake sales, raffles and sales of flowers. But after he visited the proposed site, Ament said he would pay for the bowl section of the park out of his own pocket.
Ament said the goal of the parks was “to get kids outdoors and . . . get kids active.” He added that he’s “seen kids turn their lives around” through the parks, saying, “Finding a focus on something — whether its skateboard or playing your guitar — can be life changing.”
Pearl Jam does not have any live dates on its schedule for 2015, although that could change later in the year.
