It was announced on Thursday (July 3rd) that “Midnight Rider” director Randall Miller and producers Jody Savin and Jay Sedrish have been charged with involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass in Wayne County, Georgia superior court following the death of camera assistant Sarah Jones. Jones was struck and killed by a train on the set of the biopic last February, during the filming of a dream sequence.
Involuntary manslaughter carries a potential sentence of ten years in prison under Georgia law,, while criminal trespass is a misdemeanor and carries a potential sentence of twelve months.
Also, several civil suits were recently filed against Miller, Savin, Sedrish and others associated with the movie.
Production on the film has been suspended since Jones’s death, and star William Hurt has pulled out of the project.
