At SXSW last week, Neil Young spoke about his forthcoming album A Letter Home, which was recorded at Jack White’s Third Man Studios.
“A Letter Home is going to be very confusing to people because it is retro-tech,” Young says, explaining that “Retro-tech means recorded in a 1940s recording booth. A phone booth. It’s all acoustic with a harmonica inside a closed space, with one mic to vinyl.”
Young also dropped some info about a couple of other projects, saying, “I’m writing some books. My second book is coming out next year. Coming out in September or October — Special Deluxe is the name of it. And then I’m writing another book right now, which is a science fiction book. I’m well into it, maybe 100 pages.” While he wouldn’t reveal what the science fiction book is about, he did say, “It’s great. I think it’s better to wait. It’s crazy to talk about. Too f***ing weird. But it’s great, I love it. I love writing sci-fi. I’m enjoying the hell out of it.”
